EDUCATIONAL EVENTS
The photos below are a small sample representing the education engagement that WAM is doing in Broward County middle and high schools plus other venues such as alternative schools and juvenile detention centers. Our outreach began in the Fall of 2015. Since then, our education committee and training staff — consisting of Hugh Beswick, Gary McCarthy, Jeff Banning, Ari Sumargo, Todd Fogel, Marvin Shaw and Marc Paige — have taught about 4,000 students. Our “In Ctrl-Educated Choices ” program is a very detailed safe-sex lesson about HIV and STIs. In December 2016, Todd Fogel designed a second offering,“Stigma Elimination” to help eradicate stigma toward people living with HIV or AIDS. Stigma contributes to infection-spread because it acts as a barrier to testing. Testing leads to treatment which prevents transmission.
